IGBC, which is a part of CII - Godrej GBC, is actively involved in promoting the Green Building concept in India.
The council is represented by all stakeholders of construction industry comprising of : Corporate, Government, and Nodal agencies, Architects, Product manufacturers, Institutions, etc.The Council is headed by Dr Prem C Jain.
The council operates on a consensus based approach and is member-driven.
The vision of the council is to usher in a green building revolution and facilitate in India emerging as one of the world leaders in green buildings by 2010.

CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre is the Centre of Excellence of the Confederation of Indian Industry for Energy Efficiency, Green Buildings, Renewable Energy, Water, Environment and Recycling and Climate Change activities in India .
The Centre is a joint initiative of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and House of Godrej with the technical support of USAID an unique model of a successful Public-Private partnership.
The formal launch of CII-Godrej GBC took place in March 2000 during the visit of the US President Mr Bill Clinton to India . CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre was inaugurated by H.E Shri A P J Abdul Kalam, President of India, on July 14, 2004 in the presence of H.E Shri Surjeet Singh Barnala, Former Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Hon'ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) works to create and sustain an environment conducive to the growth of industry in India, partnering industry and government alike through advisory and consultative processes.

With 57 offices in India, 7 overseas in Australia, Austria, China, France, Singapore, UK, USA and institutional partnerships with 240 counterpart organisations in 101 countries, CII serves as a reference point for Indian industry and the international business community.
